Special Town Board Meeting

August 29, 2025

The special town meeting of the Board of the Town of Rockbridge was held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Rockbridge Town Hall.

  1. Call to order: Nick called the meeting to order at 11:30am, noting it had been properly posted.
  2. Roll call: Doug Duhr, Nick Perna, Leonard Frye, Dean Berry, and Jeff Falk were present.
  3. Approve agenda: Doug made a motion to approve the agenda and Jeff seconded. All in favor; aye, motion carried.
  4. Questions from patrolman
    • Nick presented questions from full-time patrolman Austin Clary:
      • “When I got hired, it was the same paid holidays as the prior patrolman. I even got paid like the prior patrolman until the new board took place. I have talked with surrounding townships on what the full-time patrolman got and it was 9 paid holidays (Willow Township, Ithaca Township, Westford Township). I also don’t like the working the day before a holiday and after unless approved by board rule. Paid holidays should be: New Years, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving (Veterans Day), Christmas Eve, Christmas, 9 days.”
        • (7) holidays on offer letter signed by Austin Clary and Al Sherwood, dated 10/29/2024. Nick makes motion to continue with 7 paid holidays, Doug 2nd, motion carries.
      • “Add: evaluation once a year to talk about performance, cost of living raise, etc.”
        • Doug makes motion to hold evaluation in November, Jeff 2nd, motion carries.
      • “Add: mileage on personal use of vehicle if needed.”
        • Nick makes motion to not allow reimbursement at this time, Doug 2nd, motion carries.
      • “Add: health insurance reimbursement, I know my wife has health insurance but I do know the prior patrolman got some money to put towards health insurance.”
        • Nick makes motion to not allow health insurance reimbursement at this time, Doug 2nd, motion carries.
  5. Equipment – found numerous plugs in new tractor tires.
    • Rough use of mower with trees too large
  6. Safety – citizens noticed town vehicles driving through stop signs without stopping
  7. Patrolman to submit simple list of planned work activities for following week
  8. Adjournment: Nick made a motion to adjourn at 12:20pm and Jeff seconded. All in favor; aye, motion carried.
